From the cooler, lower lying vineyard blocks on the estate, 25-45 year old vines allow for a complex and balanced Chardonnay. Floral aromas of green apple, pineapple and jasmine with hints of nutmeg, fig, and toasted oak. The mouth feel is clean and bright with flavors of fresh pear, lemon and lime. Firm acidity provides a crisp finish of citrus, mineral and spice.
This white varietal has been traditionally associated with the Northern Rhone, where it is blended with Marsanne to make white Hermitage wines. In 1998, three acres of Roussanne were planted on the southern end of the Truchard Estate Vineyard. Floral aromas of pineapple, honeysuckle, and jasmine with highlights of brioche and vanilla. The mouth is crisp, with clean flavors of fresh pear, honeydew melon and apricot. Bright acidity provides a lengthy finish of citrus, mineral, and spice.
The Carneros AVA produces some of the best Pinot Noir in the world and our Truchard Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir comes from some of the best blocks in our vineyards. Rich aromas of black cherry, pomegranate and wild strawberry; with hints of rhubarb, tea and earth. The mouth is silky, with flavors of cranberry, ripe plum and sweet vanilla. Firm acidity and delicate tannins focus the palate and provide a lingering finish of spice and red fruit that will age gracefully for the next 10 -12 years.
If we had a nickel for every time someone said, “I don’t normally like Zin, but I like Truchard’s!”
Merlot is harvested from five separate hillside locations on the Truchard Vineyards Estate. The difference in these micro-climates and soil conditions have set our Carneros Merlot apart and has been a favorite of our customers since first planted in 1974. An intense nose of ripe plum, wild blueberries, and cassis with a hint of cedar, earth, and subtle mint. The mouth is layered with bright flavors of black cherries, red currents, and sweet vanilla. Ripe tannins fill the palate and provide an elegant finish of dried red fruits.
Our Cabernet Franc is planted on several southwestern facing hillsides on our estate. The Cabernet Franc grape is lighter than Cabernet Sauvignon, making it a perfect wine to blend with more robust grapes, giving finesse and a peppery perfume aroma. The final blend on this wine is 95% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. A rich bouquet of wild berries, black cherry and cassis with touches of cedar, tobacco and sweet vanilla. There are bright flavors on the tongue of red currents, cherry jam and ripe plum. Full, round tannins provide a pleasant finish of dried red fruit and subtle spice.
Cabernet Sauvignon is planted in several different sites on steep, southwestern facing hillsides. The vines range from 20 - 42 years old. Luscious aromas of raspberry, plum and cassis fill your senses with a touch of cedar and vanilla. Layers of ripe cherries, red currants and berry jam provide a rich mouth feel. Ripe tannins focus the palate and provide a lengthy finish of spice and deep red fruit.
The Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was first produced by Truchard in 1994 after a "mistake" led us to discover the potential of one of our best locations. This specific block of Cabernet grapes is found on a steep west facing slope that was planted back in 1982. The western exposure allows the vines to capture the warm afternoon sun producing a powerful yet elegant wine that will age gracefully 20-25 years. Classic Cabernet aromas of plum, red berry, cassis with hints of cedar, dusty cocoa, and sweet vanilla on the nose. Round, intense layers or blackberry, cherries and raspberry followed by velvety taninns lift the palate and provide a silky, long finish of berry and spice. This reserve designation will gracefully age 15 to 20 years!
The 2017 Syrah is dark purple with a ruby edge with notes of fresh blackberries, baked cherry, espresso, toasted spice and black pepper jump from the glass. For how full-bodied this wine is on the palate, it’s amazingly light on it's feet for it's opulence. There’s great tension between the fine velvety tannic structure and fruit and richness in this low alcohol, cool-weather Syrah.
Tempranillo is the noble grape of Spain and we found that mimicking the long bottle aging techniques the Spaniards use on this wine prior to it's release, allow us to enhance the flavors and textures of our Tempranillo. Our 2015 vintage brings complex aromas of ripe cherry, cranberry, and cassis with a hint of Earl Grey tea and cedar. The mouth is layered with flavors of red currants, plum jam, and sweet vanilla. Chalky tannins focus the palate and provide a delicate finish of red fruit, mineral and spice.
