Grown on an acre and a half above the Truchard Vineyards cave, this Caberent Sauvignon show the balance and elegance you have grown to enjoy in all of our wines.
There are only 4 acres of Zinfandel planted on the Truchard Estate Vineyard. One acre is in the northern “Highlands” region, and three acres are located at the southern end of the vineyard. The vines range from 18 to 26 years old and grow on steep hillsides composed of volcanic rock and ash. The porous soils and cooler Carneros climate combine to produce an exceptionally intense Zin, with unique fruit and spice components.
In 2000, one acre of Petit Verdot was planted in an isolated valley on the Truchard Estate Vineyard. The vines grow in a light sandstone soil on a steep hillside. In the cooler Carneros climate these grapes ripen slowly, allowing for maximum flavor development. The resulting wine is dark purple, with floral aromas, and an intense fruity flavor.
There are 12 acres of Syrah planted on the Truchard Estate Vineyard. Four acres are in the “Highlands” region to the north, and 8 acres are located at the southern end of the vineyard. These areas are dominated by austere hillsides composed of volcanic rock and ash.
Rich aromas of black cherry, pomegranate, and wild strawberry; with hints of rhubarb, tea, and earth. The mouth is silky; with flavors of cranberry, ripe plum, and sweet vanilla. Firm acidity and delicate tannins focus the palate and provide a lingering finish of spice and red fruit.
The Truchard Estate Vineyard is located in the Carneros region of the Napa Valley. It is 400 acres of hills and valleys which contain a variety of soils: clay, shale, sandstone, limestone, volcanic ash and rock. The combination of terrain, geology, and marine-moderated temperatures, provides ideal conditions for wine-growing. Cabernet Sauvignon is planted in several different sites - on steep, southwestern facing hillsides. The vines range from 18 - 40 years old, and produce wines that are deep in color, dominated by lush flavors of plum, berry, and spice. Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec are blended in to provide additional softness, structure, and complexity.
The 2015 vintage was one of the earliest harvests on record! A very dry winter forced early bud-break. Cool spring conditions during flowering led to poor set; yields were down almost 40%. Moderate summer temperatures quickly brought the small crop to full maturity. The wines of 2015 are powerful and concentrated, yet elegant.
Cabernet Franc is planted in several different sites - on steep southwest-facing hillsides. The vines range from 19 to 33 years old, and produce wines that are deep in color, dominated by lush flavors of plum, berry, and spice. Cabernet Sauvignon which grows on adjacent blocks is blended in to provide firmness, complexity, and added age ability.
Tempranillo is the noble grape of Spain, and we found that mimicking the long bottle aging techniques of Spain prior to release allowed us to enhance the flavors and textures of our Tempranillo.
Merlot is harvested from five separate hillside locations on the Truchard Estate Vineyard. The differences in soil, exposure, and temperature at each site combine to produce unique growing conditions for the grapes.
Fresh and peppery, and grown right here on the Truchard's property!
